Best Firefox Add-ons: SearchStatus

The browser is where we spend most of our time these days, and Firefox is the browser of choice for web geeks (along with Chrome these days). That is why I decided to start a series called “Best Firefox Add-ons.”

Every Monday I’ll be talking about one different add-on (also called extension), and most of them are useful to bloggers, webmasters and Internet addicts in general!

The first one is called SearchStatus. If I don’t have this extension installed it feels that something is missing on the browser.

It basically displays the Google PageRank and the Alexa rank of the website/page you are visiting.

On top of that you also have a wide range of features. For example, you can make the extension highlight nofollow links on the pages you are visiting, show the Whois or robots.txt of the website, and check how many backlinks the website or page has (according to different sources).

It is certainly the extension I use most frequently while working online, so check it out if you don’t have it yet.

I have been using this one for a while. It is really handy to check rankings and no-follow links.

    HI Thomas,
what do you mean by no-follow links and why is it useful?
    Thanks,
    Sharel

Notice in the image above , how it says ‘highlight no ‘follow links’, this tells you which links Google will follow and count. Good to know when commenting on blogs and link building.

    Hi,

Will love to read more about ‘follow links’, why does it matter, if you have a post about it, or know one it will be great.

    Thanks,
    Sharel

Thanks for the tip. I will have to give Search status a try. It sounds like it does more than the plugin I am currently using. (Swootsy)

I, too, have been using this extension for quite some time. Especially the “Show Indexed Pages” and “Show Backward Links” features.

I am using SEO quake for FF. Basically tells me all I need to know and I can disable the features I don’t need.

Looking forward to more post on the best Firefox add ons. May I suggest one for one of your next posts: Colorzilla. It’s my must have!

SearchStatus is really good, I also use SEOQuake which I like because it puts a toolbar on your site (though it slows down your Firefox and performs much better under Chrome)

SearchStatus has been my favorite Page Rank checking plugin. But having the results within Google are also nice at times. And I do have one Firefox install where the page rank doesn’t show unless I click on the status in the status bar.

    Daniel,

I’m looking to use Firefox plugins to boost my productivity as a blogger. This series is right on time since I’m in the process of customizing what I call my “blogger browser”. I had glanced over the SearchStatus addon without much thought, but your review brought its capabilities to my attention! Looking forward to more of your recommendations

    Thanks,
    Keisha

There are quite a few that do this now. I use Internet Explorer as my main browser but I do want to use Firefox when I want to find out the PR of a web site.

  20. Kamal Hasa on July 23, 2010 6:46 am

I have been Searchstatus for a couple of months now. And I just hate to browse on other computers where it is not installed!

  21. Shawnsey on July 23, 2010 10:46 am

Cool! I cant wait for more recommendations! I love these add-ons and install each one. Helps me know if my post is realtive in terms of Google!

  22. Voeding on July 26, 2010 3:14 am

Well, if it is about FireFox Addon i prefer SeoQuake it’s more complete and i was using this Addon start about 2 years ago…and i love until now….

Among any other browser, I’m very much dependable to FireFox. Simply because I’m after of the useful plugins which I can use for my work online. As far as I know, other browsers have plugins but I still go with FF.

  24. Kyle Payne on August 18, 2010 7:19 am

I agree with Kiel, FireFox is one of the most reliable browser that every individual or business can make use of. However, now I’m currently experiencing frequent crashing everytime I’m using it.
