Video Blog Review 1 – FavBrowser.com
Welcome to the first Daily Blog Tips video post. It has been a long time since the idea of playing with videos came into my mind, and now I am finally up with the first one. I am aware that the quality needs to get improved, but if you guys like the format it might become a weekly feature on the blog. Apart from blog reviews I will try to to tutorials and how-to videos as well.
On this first blog review I will cover the design and layout aspects of FavBrowser.com, a blog coming from one of our readers (I asked his permission to review it).
In future reviews we will cover different aspects, like search engine optimization, content quality, promotion strategy and so on. If you took the time to watch the video, please let me know if you would like to see more of them, and if you have any suggestions for topics or formats.
If for some reason you can’t see the video player, here is the link for the YouTube page: http://youtube.com/watch?v=WI074pRX13w.

Hey Daniel, this is a great new medium for your blog! I find videos so much more engaging and easier to learn from than just plain text. Great to see this!
@Aseem, thanks for the feedback, if readers like I will for sure do more of them.
Nice review there Daniel.
Even learning a thing or 2 with these videos.
Hope to some more in the future, as long as it’s about the same topics as your blog, I don’t mind watching them.
@MrCooker, I will definitely keep the topics relevant.
This is a very nice idea! I like to watch it and it gives me some ideas for my own blog. So I would like to see more of those. Thanks!
Hello Daniel,
It’s nice to see another medium on DBT to get interact with. I recently got aware about music blogs and now you have introduced video blogging here too. May be blog are now not about only writing and reading?
It´s looking really great, good idea. And by the way nice blog.
Hi Daniel,
Keep on doing these kind of posts … a lot of us can learn from this!
Richard
nice i like this new aspect. i am more of visual type so this is right up my alley
Great, very interesting and simple. I use the same WP theme and I agree with the all stuff you said.
Definitely want to see more videos. Search engine optimization should be interesting topic if you keep it short, at least like this one.
Great stuff – Thanks!
In the video you had shown a single icon that allowed the user to select multiple bookmark services.
What is the name of the plug-in that was used?
Thanks,
@Farfield, I think we are going to have more of those then.
@Siddharth, indeed! I think more people will start playing with video in the future. I had a lot of fun with this first one already.
@Jimmy, thanks.
@Team ray, yeah some people absorb better in video format.
@Jeff, sorry I should have included it in the post.
That is the button I talked about in the video: http://www.addthis.com/
Daniel,
This review rocks! Thanks. I look forward to seeing more video here at DBT.
Great tips in the video. It was something new you did, and I think it was a great move. I learned a lot from this review.
Hey Daniel, that was a great review. I’m actually using that same theme on my blog and I didn’t realize that some of the things you mentioned were happening on mine as well. A lot of the links you suggested to remove are built into the blog theme! Still, you made some excellent points, and I look forward to the next review!
Aseem is spot on, there are too many that won’t make a video (I have some poor efforts already out there) and your review is a good way to engage people. Since videos are more engaging and easier to learn from, and it is easier (less annoying) to go back and watch a vid a second time than to re-read a long document.
Great review. You should do more of them!
Thank you for your review
Already applying some of your tips.
Hm,
I’m trying AddThis plugin and it automatically ads it into index page as well. Is there any way to make for it to appear in the posts only?
Try this one http://sharethis.com/
Same problem. Wonder if this is theme specific
This is great! Really great tips on a blog that on first sight seems pretty okay. Also found the video blog medium to be engaging/ refreshing.
But I also recommend having a transcript of what you say available to read. I know that the only reason I sat through the video was because i have time on my hands right now. I wouldn’t normally. But I also want to hear what you have to say, so under normal circumstances I would have to skip it. A transcript would allow me the option of still retaining the information.
This is the best idea I’ve stumbled upon since a really long time! I’d definitely like to see more of these! Great work
Thanks for the blog tips video posts. They’re great! Hope you’ll keep doing it.
Very thorough review of a blog’s design and tips for improving effectiveness. The video takes about 10 minutes to view (may want to state that somewhere). Most new bloggers will come away with things to think about and change!
