Vistalicious WordPress Theme Released

Daniel Scocco

This is one of my favorite WordPress Themes so far. Vistalicious is a clean theme with two columns and a green flavored background. It is advertising ready and easily customizable.

Here are all the features of the theme:

  • About Section: On the right side of the header you have space to write a brief description of the website, or to promote a specific section with a link to it.
  • Subscription Section: The theme comes with a custom image to encourage visitors to subscribe to your RSS feed. It should be easy to insert an email subscription form there as well.
  • Advertising Ready: The theme already comes with a 300×250 spot on the sidebar (compatible with Google AdSense). Additionally, there is a readme file with a code for people that want to use 125×125 ad buttons.
  • Search Engine Optimization: All the title and meta tags are already optimized for search engines. Secondly, the category and archive pages will only display post excerpts to avoid duplicate content penalties.

If you find any problems while installing the theme, or if you have any suggestions, just let us know on the comments section below.

    How do you change the background color in this theme? It currently sports the gradient based green background, how do you change it something else. A custom background I mean?

    Thanks all. . . . . .

    How do I add a URL to the upper right header Learn about us?

  • Tony

    I guys. Love the theme although I’ve cut it back fairly substantially as I am using it for a web site only and not a blog.

    I have the same question as asked by two previous responses.

    1. As asked by josh on January 8th, 2009 – I can’t get a link in the “welcome message” part of the header, to be clickable in Firefox. Works fine in IE, but you can’t click it in Firefox. Any suggestions?

    2. As asked by vlaks on February 11th, 2009 – I also love the way the menu system works, but would like to exclude some pages. I looked at using the standard “exclude” command without success. I don’t want to rip out the menu entirely as outlined in your read me file, just exclude a couple of pages. Any suggestions?

    Thanks again for a great theme and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Love this theme.
    Having problems with viewing the navigation links in Firefox and IE
    Navigation links showed up OK; but then I modified the header.php file as indicated in the Readme as I only wanted a subset of the pages to display. Before the edit, the links in Firefox and IE displayed same as in Safari.

    Now – only when I view the pages in Safari do they look correct.
    Any suggestions as to why?

    Great Theme folks!

    But how can I change the order of the main navigation at the top, is it ordered by id, date or simply alphabetically.

    I guess if you cannot change the order then maybe you could add that in a future version of the theme.

    Hi Guys

    Great theme

    One question, though in the page nav, I want the page to be available via a link elsewhere in the site, but not in the main nav.

    This is for a poll in the sidebar and I have to create a poll archive which is a page to view all the results, but do not want it visible in the as an option in the main nav.

    Where do I hide the link, and I guess how? Is there some sort of exclude php command I can use?

    Thanks in advance

    oops didn’t show up…anyway around line 27

  • Craig

    Thats because there is no logo. You could probably change the code sitename and sitedesc to logo image…just above

  • Steve

  • Craig

    Love the theme!.
    I would like ot change the page link for home, I’m not sure as to how to go about that. Its very simple, I think, basically I want the page link on the header to say something else, everything else stays the same.
    Any Ideas?.
    THank you.

    Hey its me double posting XD!

    Theme Author/ Anybody Else:

    you can solve the caption bug by adding these lines to your CSS style.css file: (add them at the end to avoid overriding of other declarations)

    .wp-caption{/*Added for correct display of images with caption*/
    padding: 5px 20px 0px 5px;
    color: #000;

    .wp-caption-text{/*Added for correct display of captions on images with caption*/
    font-style: italic;
    font-size: 12px;

    Add CSS as necesary to adapt it to your needs

    Thanks for the theme

    Whenever I add a link into the “welcome message” part of the header, it is not clickable in Firefox. Works fine in IE, but you can’t click it in Firefox. Any suggestions?

    Hi there,

    Just getting into WordPress and I’ve managed to get it loaded and to download the fabalicious Vistalicious theme. Only problem is I’m not clued up enough to change the header section. I’ve managed to edit the text that says “Welcome to Vistalicious”. The bit that I’m struggling with is the “WordPress 2.6.2 Blog” bit. I can’t find it written in the “header.php” file and I read the post you put in reply to Jack’s similar (if not same) request and I can’t find any reference to “logo” either.

    Can you help as it’s the only thing stopping me from adding the whole thing to my live website.

    Thanks muchly

    Andy H

    Looks great, but I get:

    Call to undefined function: the_search_query() in /var/virtual/web/w1690/html/blog/wp-content/themes/vistalicious/searchform.php on line 3

    Why is it failing?

  • Bob

    Oh and I forgot to ask why can you only click on the bottom 20% of any link in the header when using FireFox?

    Stay Frosty!

  • Bob

    Hi Daniel… excellent theme, loving it!!!

    Can I ask how you can EXCLUDE a page from showing?

    I would normally adapt wp_list_pages()

    But I can’t for the life of me find the location of your alternative.

    Nice looking theme, although I am partial to the Thesis Theme.

    Joost de Valk has a great post on 10 things you should look for in a perfect WordPress theme:

    Anyone looking for a WordPress theme should read that post. And he told me he has a review of Thesis in the works, so look for that when it comes out as well.

  • Tim

    @Daniel Scocco When I refresh the page, the theme graphics are centered justified, but when the page completes the load the whole theme is left justified. For reference, look at the screenshot at the top. For me, it looks exactly like the screenshot, but the whole theme is pushed to the left side of the screen.
