Google Is Kick Starting 2010 with a PageRank Update

By Daniel Scocco - 0 minute read

It looks like Google used the new year’s eve to update the nominal PageRank around the web. My established websites didn’t experience any fluctuation, but I noticed that many of my recently created niche websites gained PageRank.

Most of them went from PR0 to PR2. I was surprised to see one of them jumping from PR0 to PR4 though, especially because the site is less than six months old.

What about you, did you notice any changes?

Finally, it looks like the frequency of the updates is indeed increasing. The last one was just two months ago (late in October), so keep an eye for the next one around March.

Well i guess i gotta have to wait for March to see what my pagerank will be then. I have to put up more quality articles and do some linking strategy

My site jumped from 0 to 2, yet i have only 38 back-links. My other site has over 200 back-links but only jumped from 0 to 1, so I guess that the algorithm is not based on Link popularity?? any ideas?

My page rank still stays the same, I am a newbie and on the way learning to get higher rank and your site is definitely informational. Thank You .

The homepage of my site went from a 0 to a 2 and my Blog went to a 1 – the site is less than 1 month old, so I am pretty happy!

I first noticed that something was happening when the back-links in my Google Webmaster Tools account went from 6 to 85 – is it typical for Google to refresh the number of back-links at the same time as a PR update?

Yes my site was PR2 when we were entering 2009 and during 2009 it became PR 0 !!!!!
I could not understand what happened then and i dont understand what happened now because its PR3 now. :))
I dont need to understand it right now :)))

My Blog, Site Sketch 101, moved up as well. I’m now proud to own a PR4 blog. Hopefully I can achieve PR5 status during 2010. I feel pretty confident about it.

I remember the one back in late October. At that time, I went from unrecognizable to 0…lol. This time I jumped from 0 to 3.

Many SEO experts claim pagerank isn’t as important as it once was. I say it still matters. I tend to take blogs with pagerank more seriously.

It lets me know the blog has been out there a while and has information other people around the web think enough of to link to.

Eagerly anticipating what March will bring 🙂

  • Greg Smith

I’m sorry to report that traffic from google has dropped to almost nothing on my site. I can’t be sure it’s related to this change.

  • Books On Audio

I still don’t get the importance of a PR. I see 0 PR on the first pages. Why?

  • Bob Bessette

Happily I went from a PR0 to PR3 and I’ve been blogging just under 6 months. I know it must be the guest posts I have done, especially the one on DailyBlogTips, on December 3rd. Thanks Daniel for giving me the opportunity. I have done many guest posts on other blogs but none have been as tweeted and commented on as the one on DailyBlogTips. Your audience is immense!
I was happily surprised a few days ago when I actually had a page rank. I never expected a 3 so soon. It really motivates me to work harder for the new year!

    Best,
    Bob

  • Arie Rich

Cool! I haven’t noticed any change in my page rank, I’m still a solid 3. Hopefully someday I’ll be a 4.

  • Michelle

My site jumped from 0 to 3. Very happy and a great way to start the new year. My site once had a PR of 4, but I rebuilt it from the ground up (converting to WordPress) and I lost my PR for a while. Thanks for the reminder to check.

Happy New Year and thank you for all the awesome information you provide to those of us stumbling around in the dark:o))

  • GPRU

that’s correct, it’s already updated yesterday within our main website when google change PRs, but it’s not confirmed as far as we know

  • Eric Brown

Hi, This may be a silly question, but how do you check what your Google Page Rank is?

    Thanks in advance,

  • Daniel Scocco

@Eric C, I use the “search status” extension for Firefox.
